Four years ago today, it was announced that Neill Blomkamp would be directing a film called RoboCop Returns, a direct sequel to the original RoboCop that he hoped to get Peter Weller to star in. After being attached to the project for over a year, Blomkamp dropped out over a scheduling conflict and was replaced by Little Monsters director Abe Forsythe… and we’re still waiting to see whether or not RoboCop Returns is ever going to happen. In the meantime, we have another RoboCop project to look forward to: a first-person-shooter video game called RoboCop: Rogue City, which is going to be released in June of 2023. A trailer for RoboCop: Rogue City has just been released, and it features the return of Peter Weller as the iconic hero RoboCop!
RoboCop: Rogue City is being developed by Teyon, the company that was behind Terminator: Resistance and Rambo: The Video Game. It is said that the game will “combine first-person shooter gameplay with exploration of Detroit and multiple-choice dialogue”. The game has the following synopsis:
Crime runs rampant as Detroit lies on the edge of ruin, with people fighting for scraps as others live extravagant lives of luxury. Control of the Detroit Police Department is given to the Omni Consumer Products corporation in an attempt to restore order. You are that solution: a cyborg tasked with protecting the city.
RoboCop: Rogue City is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X in eleven months, so sorry if the trailer got you too excited. What did you think of the trailer? Will you be playing this game next year? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
Peter Weller just turned 75 last month, so it’s cool that this game has allowed him to play RoboCop again without having to put on a costume or sit in the makeup chair.
