Actors continue to pile aboard DOCTOR STRANGE director Scott Derrickson's TNT pilot Snowpiercer, which is based on the 2013 SNOWPIERCER film directed by Bong Joon-ho.
Like the film, this potential television series will be set in a time
after an apocalyptic ice age leaves Earth as a frozen wasteland and will focus on the survivors who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. It explores class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival.
So far we know that Daveed Diggs will be playing a prisoner in the tail end of the train, Jennifer Connelly is a first class passenger who handles the train's PA announcements, Mickey Sumner works on the train's security force, Annalise Basso will be playing a poor fourth class passenger, Sasha Frolova will be returning to the front of the train after serving three years in the prison car, Benjamin Haigh will play the poverty-stricken Fergus McConnell, and Alison Wright is believed to be playing the mother of Basso's character.
It has now been confirmed that two more actors have signed on to board the Snowpiercer train.
First up is Robert Urbina, who viewers may know from Narcos or Mestastasis, which was a Spanish-language, episode-by-episode remake of Breaking Bad. On Snowpiercer, Urbina will be playing Avi, who is "part of a polyamorous relationship that's reeling from a personal tragedy. He also works on the Breach Team, the train's equivalent of a fireman."
Joining the pilot alongside Urbina is Katie McGuinness, who has been seen on The Borgias and the recent remake of Roots. Her Snowpiercer character is Josie McConnell, "a strong, no-nonsense woman who lives in poverty at the tail of the train. Josie cares for her sick husband as well as their precocious son. She would do anything for her family, and when unforeseen circumstances turn their lives upside down, she'll learn exactly how far she'll go." Sounds like she's the mother of Haigh's character Fergus.
I have never seen SNOWPIERCER, but all these intriguing updates on the pilot inspired by it are starting to make me think I should watch that movie as soon as possible.
