A couple weeks ago, we learned that director Robert Zemeckis' new cinematic adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel THE WITCHES (you can pick up a copy of the book HERE and watch Nicolas Roeg's 1990 adaptation HERE) will be available to watch on the HBO Max streaming service as of October 22nd. One week out from the release date, a new teaser for the film has arrived online and can be seen above.
In this teaser, cast members Jahzir Kadeem Bruno, Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, and Stanley Tucci offer information on "how to spot a witch". The teaser is followed by the full trailer.
Scripted by Zemeckis, Guillermo del Toro, and Kenya Barris, this version of the Dahl story moves the setting from 1980s Norway and England to 1960s Alabama. It centers on
a young boy who stumbles upon a secret coven of witches and, with the help of his loving grandmother, vies to stop their evil plan to turn all the world’s children into mice.
Kristin Chenoweth and Codie-Lei Eastick are also in the cast, with Chris Rock providing narration.
Zemeckis and del Toro produced the film with Alfonso Cuaron, Jack Rapke, and Steve Starkey.
I have childhood memories of being disturbed by Roeg's THE WITCHES, so I'm interested in checking out this new take on the story.
