The Batman: Robert Pattinson says he has discussed a trilogy with director Matt Reeves

The release date for The Batman is fast approaching and Robert Pattinson, along with the rest of the cast, is already looking forward to more adventures in Gotham City, possibly even for a trilogy of films. The actor has said that he would “do this for as many times as people want to see it” and he revealed that he and director Matt Reeves have already discussed making a trilogy.

During a chat on Fandango’s Behind The Movie, Pattinson is already game to return as the Caped Crusader and it looks like ideas have already been discussed regarding how this will continue as a trilogy:

“It was fun doing it, I’m down to do this for as many times as people want to see it, really. I’ve gotta get this one out, first! I’ve talked to Matt [Reeves] about the idea of doing a trilogy. I know it’d be wonderful. I really enjoyed the process. It’s such a fun character to play. That’d be lovely.”

Paul Dano, who plays a new psychotic spin on the villainous Edward Nashton AKA The Riddler, added that “there’s so much room for this Batman to grow” and that is a good indication that we could see this take on the character evolve in future films. As Pattinson said, we still need to get the first one out first but I’m sure they have some kind of plan in place for where the story will go if they wish to continue.

Robert Pattinson has previously stated that The Batman will lay down the foundations for a follow-up, and possible trilogy. The actor said, “When I saw it the first time, even from the first shot, it does feel incredibly different, tonally, to the other movies. And it’s so strange, and kind of… It’s sad, and quite touching. It’s a really, really unusual Batman story, and it almost seems harder for me to imagine it being a series afterwards. I mean, they always have that little bit at the end, that’s like: ‘…and coming up!’ But other than that, it feels strangely personal. I think people will be quite shocked at how different it is.”

Per the film’s official synopsis, “It’s not just a call… It’s a warning. From Warner Bros. Pictures comes Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson in the dual role of Gotham City’s vigilante detective and his alter ego, reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne. Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies—Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright)—amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”
