We don’t know much about Christopher Nolan’s mysterious new blockbuster (which is a good thing), but we have been getting some casting updates as of late, the newest addition to the slate is reportedly none other than Robert Pattinson. No other details were given, but Pattinson's casting means he will be starring in the movie alongside BLACKKKLANSMAN star John David Washington in the untitled movie set for July 2020.

Collider got the scoop about the casting of the TWILIGHT, GOOD TIME and this year’s HIGH LIFE star, which comes a day after Washington’s casting announcement in Variety. The report about Pattinson doesn’t offer any details about his character or the movie itself but does hint that he and Washington will be the leads and that a female lead will be joining them. Will they be friends? Foes? Will they venture into dimensions unknown for the sake of saving all humanity but in the process learn the key to humanity was in their hearts all along? Could go anyway, really.

There’s been a lot of speculation about the new movie from Nolan recently, including that it could be a sequel to INCEPTION (not likely) and it was like “NORTH BY NORTHWEST meets INCEPTION”, a rumor that was quickly shut down by Nolan himself. Aside from the casting, we won’t know much about the project at all until later in the year, as we’re more than a year out from its summer 2020 release. However, Nolan’s movies have gotten teasers a solid year before they come out (INCEPTION, INTERSTELLAR), so maybe we can expect something come summer?
As for the casting itself this a major get for Pattinson, who after his years in the massive TWILIGHT franchise has been focusing on smaller, critically acclaimed projects that have earned him a serious following and respect in the film community. He’s worked with David Cronenberg (COSMOPOLIS, MAPS TO THE STARS), James Gray (LOST CITY OF Z) the Safdie Brothers (GOOD TIME), Clarie Denis (HIGH LIFE) and stars the upcoming black and white horror movie from THE WITCH’s Robert Eggers, THE LIGHTHOUSE. This Nolan movie will be his largest project since TWILIGHT and would also continue to push him as an actor. Smart move all around, and along with Washington, his addition is just the start of what may be a terrific ensemble cast.
