Robert Pattinson comes to the defense of all previous Batman films

Robert Pattinson will be the latest actor to suit up as the Caped Crusader in the upcoming release of The Batman and he joins a long line of performers across numerous films. The quality of these films is often debated amongst the fans but Pattinson believes that none of the previous Batman films are actually bad, no matter how polarizing some of them might be.

While speaking with Total Film, Pattinson talked about his love of the character and then went on to express that all the previous Batman films have gotten him into the theaters no matter who was behind the mask. Pattinson said, “Out of all the comic-book characters and that kind of movie, I’ve seen every single one of the [Batman] movies in the cinema, which I can’t really say I’ve done for any other series.” From there, Pattinson went on to say that he doesn’t think any of the previous Batman movies have been bad at any level and he personally doesn’t let anyone’s divisive opinion about different Batman portrayals affect his take on the character:

“I was always really looking forward to them coming out. There was the combination of just being so attracted to it, but also feeling like it’d had a lot of movies made about it, and none of them are bad movies. People kind of shit on some of them, but they’re not actually bad.”

I think there is some merit to what he’s saying. Some of the Batman films are masterpieces to me (The Dark Knight Trilogy), others are very good (Batman 89, Batman Returns), some are slightly above average (Batman Forever) and some are downright atrocious (Batman & Robin) BUT, I believe that all of them could suit your mood depending on what you’re looking for. You want a silly good time, watch Batman Forever. You want to watch something so bad that it’s good, watch Batman & Robin. You want a more grounded and cerebral experience, check out The Dark Knight Trilogy. There have been so many takes on the character that it’s bound to please someone who is fond of a particular portrayal or depiction of the role.

Per the film’s official synopsis, “It’s not just a call… It’s a warning. From Warner Bros. Pictures comes Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson in the dual role of Gotham City’s vigilante detective and his alter ego, reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne. Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies—Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright)—amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”

Do YOU agree that none of the previous Batman films are actually bad? The Batman hits screens on March 4, 2022.
