Circle of Confusion, Lightning Entertainment, and Hindsight Media are teaming up to produce a slate of "elevated suspense-thriller genre films", and the first project to come out of this collaboration is director Richard Bates Jr.'s home invasion tale TONE DEAF.

The fourth feature from the director of EXCISION, SUBURBAN GOTHIC, and TRASH FIRE, TONE DEAF is said to be "a darkly comedic critique of the bizarre cultural and political climate." The film stars Amanda Crew as

a woman who leaves for a quiet weekend in the country after losing her job and imploding her latest dysfunctional relationship.  She rents a country house from an old-fashioned widower who’s struggling to hide his psychopathic tendencies. Soon, two generations collide with terrifying results.

Robert Patrick is playing the psychopathic widower.

Bates had this to say about his stars:

Robert and Amanda go together like moonshine in a mason jar. Their brilliance and willingness to get weird has been a dream come true for me as a director."

TONE DEAF, which is currently filming, is produced by Lawrence Mattis, Brad Mendelsohn, and Matt Smith of Circle of Confusion, along with Brion Hambel and Paul Jensen of Best Medicine Productions. Lightning's James C. Walker and Andrew Brown serve as executive producers with Hindsight's James Swarbrick and James Scott.

Robert Patrick playing the antagonist in a home invasion horror movie is something I definitely want to see, and I'm interested in finding out how Bates will work in the "darkly comedic critique" element. We'll keep you updated on TONE DEAF as it makes its way through production and toward release.
