Fans tuning into the season finale of The Walking Dead this Sunday will be in for a special treat. During The Talking Dead finale we will get a first look at the trailer for the companion/spin-off/prequel series that is set in Los Angeles. But, now we can stop calling it by the working title Cobalt as comic creator and series producer Robert Kirkman has shared the new show’s official title.
IT’S OFFICIAL! The walking dead companion show on AMC is called FEAR THE WALKING DEAD! Expect more news very soon! #FearTheWalkingDead

While that may be a mouthful, it definitely keeps the focus on The Walking Dead brand. It also will maintain the focus on the emotional fear humanity felt during the early days leading to the zombie epidemic. Since the show will take place earlier than the original series, the showrunners can do different things with the story without impacting the main storylines. Plus, not being based on the comic book will give them full creative control over where these characters go.
Fear the Walking Dead stars Cliff Curtis as teacher Sean Cabrera, Kim Dickens as single mom Nancy Tompkins, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey as Nancy’s children. It is set for a debut this Summer on AMC. The Walking Dead season finale airs March 29th.
