Earlier this year, the persuasive casting department of the ABC sitcom THE GOLDBERGS managed to convice SPACEBALLS actor Rick Moranis to reprise his role as Lone Starr's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate, Dark Helmet, for a special '80s pop culture tribute episode. Now, it's been announced that horror film legend Robert Englund will once again reprise his role as The Son of 100 Maniacs, Freddy Krueger, for this year's special Halloween episode.
You can check out Englund in all of his Krueger glory in a special behind-the-scenes teaser video below:

How Krueger will arrive in the episode is unknown at this time, though I would suspect that his part will involve an elaborate dream sequence, much like Moranis' spot in the previous special. It's to be thought that THE GOLDBERGS will play off some of Freddy's more comedic tendancies, as opposed to his blood-curdling, more demonic persona.
Fans of the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET antagonist have been clamoring for Englund to return to the role for nearly 15 years, though the actor has stated on numerous occassions that he's now too old to play the part. While that is most definitely a bummer, it's more than understandable when you consider that at 71-years of age, the physical demands of the role could prove too arduous for everyone's favorite Springwood Slasher.
“I’m too old to do another Freddy now,” Englund previously told ComicBook.com. “If I do a fight scene now it’s got to be real minimal because I can’t snap my head for eight different takes and different angles. My spine gets sore. I can still be mean and scary, but I’m mostly relegated now to sort of Van Helsing roles, old doctors and sh*t. So it’s fun that the last moment of me ever playing Freddy is a wink to the audience.”
Nevertheless, Englund will be donning Freddy's iconic glove, red-and-green sweater and tattered fedora when THE GOLDBERGS Halloween special airs this October!
