Back in October, we passed along word that THE WITCH and THE LIGHTHOUSE director Robert Eggers' new nightmare THE NORTHMAN has snagged a killer cast including the likes of Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgard, Anya Taylor-Joy, Bill Skarsgard, and Willem Dafoe.
Written by Eggers with Icelandic poet and novelist, Sjon, THE NORTHMAN is described as a Viking revenge saga set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century. This film is being produced by HEREDITARY and MIDSOMMAR producer Lars Knudsen who was also behind Eggers' THE WITCH.
And today we hear from Eggers' Oscar-nominated cinematographer Jarin Blaschke that the new film will be dark and unusually violent.
Blaschke says:
It’s a bigger movie than the others. I can say it’s a Viking revenge movie and we are shooting in Europe. It’s dark and unusually violent.
Sounds good to us! We'll let you know when we hear more.
In the meantime, remember that Robert Eggers's fantasy-horror flick THE LIGHTHOUSE with Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson is now available on Blu-ray. The film has been rated R for sexual content, nudity, violence, disturbing images, and some language. Read our 8/10 review HERE. Written by Robert Eggers and Max Eggers, THE LIGHTHOUSE has a vague-ass synopsis which reads:
From Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker behind modern horror masterpiece The Witch, comes this hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.
Robert Eggers directs the fantasy-horror flick from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Max Eggers. Youree Henley, Lourenço Sant' Anna, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Jay Van Hoy produced. Jarin Blaschke is the movie's cinematographer and Louise Ford edited the flick. RT Features, New Regency, and Parts & Labor are the production companies. The film was shot on 35mm black-and-white stock using equipment from the 1920s and ’40s.
