Last month Robert Downey Jr. said there weren’t any plans for a fourth IRON MAN, now he suggests that he's pretty sure there will be another instalment. He certainly knows how to change his response to get people talking; the guy is out there trying to promote his upcoming movie THE JUDGE and he of course is getting questions about his most notable role as Tony Stark. You can’t blame him for sounding pessimistic one day and optimistic the next; at least now it sounds hopeful.
Downey Jr. is only contacted to play Iron Man one more time; he’s wrapped work on AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and eventually he will shoot THE AVENGERS 3 in 2035 or something. Below is a video of Downey responding to The Hollywood Reporter about playing Tony Stark again, the transcript follows.
"I'm sure we'll ride that thing. You've got to surf that all the way in to shore," Downey said. "I think I was at the forefront of something that was coming into being, and I think it has carried me as much as I have informed it. That's the healthy way to look at it. It's so easy to become inflated by the successes, but what they really are long, strong trends. It's just another wave."
While not very specific, “I’m sure we’ll ride that thing. You’ve got to surf that all the way in to shore” sounds a lot like someone who knows the business very well. They are certainly going to get the most out of Downey Jr. before they slap the exoskeleton on someone else and he seems game. This just sounds a lot better than "there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man." That hurt dude.
You can see him ride the wave once more in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON on May 1, 2015.
Do you think Downey Jr. will return for IRON MAN 4?
