If you were hoping one of Marvel's upcoming untitled films will be IRON MAN 4, I have some bad news for you. While in Toronto to help promote his THE JUDGE (you can read Chris Bumbray's review from TIFF here), Robert Downey Jr. was asked about the possibility of another IRON MAN movie.
There isn’t one in the pipe…No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man.
The actor was also asked if he would be OK with someone else playing Tony Stark, and he responded with, "I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I’m casting director for Marvel." His THE JUDGE co-star Robert Duvall was there as well, and his (half-joking) advice to Robert Downey Jr. was “Don’t give it to anybody else."
Although I have my fingers crossed we'll get a new IRON MAN flick before Robert Downey Jr. decides to hang up the red and gold armor, who knows when that might actually happen. A couple of months ago it sounded like the actor would be interested in doing IRON MAN 4, however Marvel has a lot going on right now with their cinematic universe, and they probably want to introduce new characters and franchises with at least a few of their upcoming films.
Of course, I doubt Robert Downey Jr. would say anything if Marvel does have plans for IRON MAN 4, but it certainly doesn't appear as if it is something that will happen in the near future. Are you bummed Marvel isn't currently developing another IRON MAN movie?
Robert Downey Jr. can be seen next as Tony Stark/Iron Man in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON on May 1, 2015.
