The Wrap has learned Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to the David Howard book proposal Chasing Phil: The World’s Greatest Con Man, Two Undercover FBI Agents, And Their Amazing Around The World Adventure for Robert Downey Jr., who will produce and possibly star as con man Phil Kitzter in a film about the FBI’s first attempt at investigating white-collar crimes. Downey is producing with his wife Susan and David Gambino through their Team Downey banner, and WB has also acquired the life rights to FBI agents Jim Wedick and Jack Brennan.
If RDJ does agree to star in CHASING PHIL, the Phil Kitzer role will be tailored for the actor.
The story follows two young FBI agents as they infiltrate the world of Phil Kitzer, the charismatic mastermind behind dozens of multi-million dollar schemes and his international network of associates known as The Fraternity.
Robert Downey Jr. is currently filming for CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, which is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2016. If the actor ends up just producing and not starring in CHASING PHIL, who would you want to play the con man?
