Robert Downey Jr. and Nic Pizzolatto teaming up for HBO series

What do you do when you're one of the biggest movie-stars on the planet and have run out of room to store your dump trucks full of Marvel money? If you're Robert Downey Jr., you team up with True Detective's Nic Pizzolatto and head on over to HBO. According to Variety, the pair are currently working on a drama project for the cable network with Pizzolatto penning the script and Downey Jr. set to star.

As to what this potential new series may be, Variety's sources say that it will be based on Robert Downey Jr.'s reboot of Perry Mason, which the actor has been developing as a movie for many years. Created by Erle Stanley Gardner in the 1930's, criminal defense lawyer Perry Mason has appeared in novels, feature films and radio dramas, but his best known incarnation came with CBS' long-running television series which starred Raymond Burr in the title role. With the third season of True Detective still up in the air, this would be a good way to keep Nic Pizzolatto, who has an overall deal with HBO stretching to 2018, busy until they made the final decision on whether or not to bring the series back.

Robert Downey Jr. has obviously been quite busy with his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the past few years and is currently taking part in Jon Watts' SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING which is set for a July 7, 2017 release.
