Robert De Niro is set to star in the first regular TV role of his career. According to Variety, Robert De Niro will star in Zero Day, a limited series in development for Netflix.
Not much is known about Zero Day at the moment, only that the series will be a political thriller which will find Robert De Niro playing a former U.S. President. Eric Newman (Narcos, Narcos: Mexico, The Watcher) and Noah Oppenheim (Jackie) are writing and executive producing the series, with a story by Newman, Oppenheim, and Michael Schmidt. Although this would be Robert De Niro’s first regular TV role, he has appeared as himself on Sesame Street, Saturday Night Live, Extras, and 30 Rock. He also played Bernie Madoff in HBO’s TV movie, Wizard of Lies.
Robert De Niro was recently seen starring alongside Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, and more in David O. Russell’s Amsterdam. The film follows three friends—a doctor, a nurse, and a lawyer—who are caught in the mysterious murder of a retired US general and a plot to overthrow the president of the United States. Based on David Grann’s best-selling crime thriller, Killers of the Flower Moon will tell the true-life mystery tale of the Osage Indian nation in Oklahoma in the 1920s who became quite wealthy after oil was discovered beneath their land. Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off, and the ensuing spiral of conspiracy, greed and murder got so bad that the FBI had to step in. In addition to Robert De Niro, Killers of the Flower Moon also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, Lily Gladstone, Tantoo Cardinal, Brendan Fraser, and more. It’s expected that the film will be released next year.
