It's been a number of years since The CW first began developing a series based on Joel Schumacher's THE LOST BOYS, but the project hit a snag when The CW decided to pass on the pilot. Normally, that would be it, but it seems that the series isn't quite dead yet. A little over a week ago it was revealed that the network had decided to recast and reshoot the pilot, proving that they still have a lot of faith in the project.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, The Lost Boys producer Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) provided an update on the pilot.

We’re so close! I mean, CW never remakes a pilot, and they’re remaking this one because they believe in it, and we just have to get a couple more things right this time on it. Hopefully it will be on the air next year… We are making progress.

The Lost Boys series was originally intended for a seven season run which would chronicle 70 years, with each season spanning a decade. The first season would have ben set in San Francisco in 1967, but each proceeding season would have had different human characters, different settings, different antagonists, and different stories; only the Lost Boys themselves would remain the same throughout the series' run. With The CW retooling the pilot, it's unclear if the series will have a new focus, but Thomas clearly hasn't lost his enthusiasm for the project. "This has been a odyssey for me with Lost Boys," Thomas said. "I have been trying to get Lost Boys — I was about to say trying to get Lost Boys to see the light of day, and that sounded so embarrassingly punny to me that I will rephrase that sentence. I’ve been trying to get Lost Boys off the ground for the better part of four years now, first as a movie, then as a pilot that I wrote, and now as a pilot that Heather’s written. We just shot a pilot that did not quite work; we plan on shooting another one. Hopefully this fourth attempt of ours will be the charm. Lost Boys deserves to be on TV." Rob Thomas won't be serving as the showrunner of the potential series, instead, Heather Mitchell (Scandal) will write the script and would be the showrunner should The Lost Boys be ordered to series.
