A&E's upcoming "unscripted X-Files" / "investigating the supernatural" show The Lowe Files is the type of show that would usually not interest me at all, but when you factor in that its investigators are actor Rob Lowe and his adult sons Matthew (age 23) and John Owen (21), suddenly I'm fascinated. The Lowe Files is must-see TV as far as I'm concerned.
This is how the Lowe patriarch sets up the series:
Since I was a kid I've loved unexplained legends, strange phenomena and the scary, supernatural stories told around campfires. When I became a father I shared those tales with my two sons. Together we bonded over Bigfoot, UFOs, and every creepy and bizarre story we could find, passionately debating if they were real… or not. And we swore that someday the three of us would go on our own adventure to find out. That day has come."
Do I expect the Lowes' investigations – which include a visit to a supposedly haunted, abandoned boys reformatory and a search for an alien base in the ocean – to turn up anything? Not really. I don't believe in most of the stuff they'll be looking into. However, while speaking to Entertainment Weekly Lowe did tease what sounds to be a very awesome Bigfoot-based episode.
… we had an incredible encounter with what locals call the wood ape, which is in the Ozark Mountains. I’m fully aware that I sound like a crazy, Hollywood kook right now.
Were you genuinely terrified?
Genuinely terrified? I was lying on the ground thinking I was going to be killed.… We’re 100 miles from the nearest town. We spent 45 minutes on the most rugged, brutal mountain trails. It’s 1 in the morning. There are a lot of serious former military men with loaded weapons, then something starts approaching our camps that is defying their orders to stop and their warnings that [they were] armed.
The first season of The Lowe Files is set to run for nine episodes, and that wood ape/Sasquatch/Bigfoot episode doesn't come around until the one-hour season finale, but it sounds like it's going to be worth the wait.
The Lowe Files is set to make its premiere on A&E on Wednesday, August 2nd.
