Rob Liefeld’s lesser-known comic character Avengelyne to get her own movie

Rob "I can't draw feet" Liefeld must be riding high as he witnessed his creation DEADPOOL dominate the box-office earlier this year (although the current, fourth-wall breaking incarnation of the character wasn't really part of Leifeld's version). So it's no wonder that Hollywood is rifling through his back catalogue for some more box-office gold. Let's see what they've dug up.

Avengelyne? I can't be the only one who hasn't heard of this character, or who thought she was Angela from SPAWN, Tarot, or even Witchblade at first glance. Anyway, for those (like me) who are unfamiliar with Angengelyne, here's her bio:

Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. She was the most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost, having single-handedly broken into Pandemonium, the outer fortress of Hell, to confront the Devil himself. She is a fallen angel, banished from Heaven by God after being tricked into questioning his love for humans. Avengelyne was stripped of all her angelic abilities, other than her great strength and her blood, which, once extracted from her body, could be used as a weapon or a miracle once empowered by quoting verses from the Bible. Avengelyne uses her powers to fight demons on earth and is being groomed to be humankind’s last hope in a coming Armageddon.

…okay. So, not much different than Angela after all.

Anyway, Academy-Award winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (of BATMAN & ROBIN fame) will be producing the film, with an eye to possibly direct (which turned so well with WINTER'S TALE). He is describing the film as "John Wick with a fallen angel", which admittedly does sound pretty sick. Goldsman is also looking for a writer to draft the script, so it's a small miracle that Goldman isn't anywhere near a Word Processor (I almost wrote "typewriter", but then I remembered this isn't the 1920s).  However, he is heading the "writers room" for the TRANSFORMERS movies…I guess we'll call it a wash for now.

So what do you guys think? You feeling AVENGELYNE?
