Road House remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal sets Spring 2024 release

The Road House remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Doug Liman sets a Spring 2024 release on Prime Video.

Road House, remake, release, Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal will be kicking some ass on Prime Video next year as the streaming service has announced (via The Playlist) the release date for the Road House remake: March 21, 2024.

Per the official logline: “In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the ’80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.” In addition to Gyllenhaal, Road House also stars Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim De Almeida, and Conor McGregor.

We caught our first look at the Road House remake yesterday in a Prime Video sizzle reel, which featured Jake Gyllenhaal laying the smackdown on a group of troublemakers. The original 1989 movie starring Patrick Swayze has become a much-beloved cult classic over the years, so the thought of remaking it may feel like sacrilege, but I’m willing to give this new version a chance.

Although the Road House remake looks promising, it’s upsetting that it doesn’t seem as though it will be given a theatrical release. In a report detailing why Joel Silver was fired from several Amazon productions, it was mentioned that the once powerful producer was very upset that Amazon would be giving Road House a straight-to-streaming release. This is despite the remake being the highest-testing movie in director Doug Liman’s career. If the remake is even half as fun as the original, it’s a shame that most won’t be able to see it on the big screen. The remake does at least seem to be staying in the spirit of the original with an R-rating for “violence throughout, pervasive language, and some nudity.

Will you be watching the Road House remake when it hits Prime Video next year?
