R.L. Stine’s Fear Street movie is now in production

I am a fan of R.L. Stine. I am a fan of GOOSEBUMPS and I am a fan of FEAR STREET. I was JUST that age when the books hit to gobble them up like… well, like I gobble up horror flicks now-a-days. Urm… I wonder if there is a connection…? I’m sure there is. Along with ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? on Snick, GOOSEBUMPS and FEAR STREET were my intros to horror.

For those who might not know, Fear Street was a teenage horror series written by R. L. Stine, back in the late 80’s through the early 90’s. At least that’s when I was aware of them. Turns out he wrote the series all the way up until 1999. Damn. Stine did however bring back the series for a 3-part miniseries in 2005.

Anyhow, turns out Stine and co. are finally making the step up to film with the FEAR STREET series. Stine himself took to Twitter today to let fans know that a FEAR STREET movie is indeed in production.

As we all know, following suit on the popular GOOSEBUMPS film that came out a few years back. I am cautiously optimistic about the potential film, as the novels I remember reading were a lot like slasher flicks. Most were who-dun-its if I remember correctly.

FEAR STREET rundown per Wiki:

The Fear Street books take place in the fictional city of Shadyside, Ohio, and feature average teenagers, who encounter malignant, sometimes paranormal, adversaries. While some of the Fear Street novels have paranormal elements, such as ghosts, others are simply murder mysteries. Although the Goosebumps books have a few deaths, the deaths presented in Fear Street, particularly the sagas, are far more gruesome, with more blood and gore.

Similar to the Goosebumps series, some characters still live on and are mentioned (or show up) multiple times. Some of the previous novel plots are also mentioned in later books, and some characters appear in multiple stories. The plot for the books occur between the late 80’s and early 90’s.

As of 2010, over 80 million copies of Fear Street have been sold. Whoa.
