The CW is preparing to say goodbye to Riverdale. As the network unveils its fall schedule for next season, it has been announced that the upcoming seventh season of the series will be its last.
Per TVLine, the network also announced that season seven of Riverdale won’t air until midseason so it will not be on the immediate fall schedule. It is the latest series to end at The CW after the network canceled series including Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Naomi, Legacies, Dynasty, Charmed, Roswell, New Mexico, In The Dark, and 4400.
Riverdale proved to be a major hit for The CW upon its debut in January of 2017. The show debuted to solid ratings by the network’s standards but exploded in popularity once it became available on Netflix. Riverdale’s sixth season averaged 560,000 total viewers with Live+7 DVR playback factored in.
Based on the characters from the “Archie Comics,” “After a teenager was murdered within the town of Riverdale, this group of teenagers tries to unravel the evils lurking within this seemingly innocent town.” The series is essentially a heightened version of the “Archie Comics” with its characters dealing with things like murder, drugs, sex, and much more.
Developed for television by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the series stars KJ Apa as Archie, Lili Reinhart as Betty, Camila Mendes as Veronica, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl, Mädchen Amick as Alice, Charles Melton as Reggie, and Vanessa Morgan as Toni. Luke Perry starred in the series as Archie’s father until his death in 2019.
