R.I.P.D., starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds, will now be converted into 3D

Universal Pictures has announced that their supernatural action-comedy R.I.P.D, starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds, is being converted into 3D ahead of its July release. This isn’t very exciting news, since anything 3D-related already seems quite passé, but I suppose it’s another case of a studio hoping to milk a few extra dollars out of its movie thanks to higher ticket prices.

Directed by Robert Schwentke and also starring Kevin Bacon, Mary-Louise Parker, James Hong, Marisa Miller and Stephanie Szostak, the adaptation of the Dark Horse comic goes like this:

Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department — the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement “patrolling the deadbeat…reporting to one boss.” Yep — THAT boss. Nick Cruz was murdered by an unknown assailent, at the height of his personal and professional life. Now he’s traded a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Unfortunately his search will take him to Hell and back — literally!

Hopefully, we’l start seeing official promo material from R.I.P.D. soon; even though the film went into production in mid-2011, Universal has not been very forthcoming with official stills from the picture.

R.I.P.D. opens on July 19th.

Marisa Miller might not be so bad in 3D…
