Acclaimed actress Billie Whitelaw, who memorably portrayed the role of the nefarious Mrs. Baylock in the original THE OMEN, has died at the age of 82. The Coventry-born star died in the early hours of Sunday at a nursing home in London, her son Matthew Muller told the BBC.
Whitelaw, who had a long and varied career both on stage and on film, also starred as Hetty Porter in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1972 thriller FRENZY and 1968’s TV film “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.” She was last seen on screen as Joyce Cooper in Edgar Wright's 2007 hit HOT FUZZ. Wright took to his website to pay tribute to Whitelaw, stating that working with the acclaimed actress was an honor and that…
"She made me laugh a lot. She had a wicked sense of humour and could be devastatingly funny."
And devastatingly scary when she needed to be, as evidenced by her role in 1976's classic chiller THE OMEN. What a great performance!
We send out our condolences to her family, friends, and fans.
