RIP Alan Parker, director of Angel Heart and The Wall

Prolific filmmaker Alan Parker, who directed such films as THE WALL, ANGEL HEART, and MISSISSIPPI BURNING, has died after succumbing to complications due to illness. He was 76 years old.

Alan's films were unique, and always had immense visual flair and verve. He also worked on a variety of genres, from his audacious debut BUGSY MALONE, where kids played the part of old-timey gangsters and molls, to the intense drama of MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, to the gothic horror of ANGEL HEART, to lively musicals with the likes of THE WALL and EVITA.   

In 2013, Parker won a prestigious Academy Fellowship from BAFTA, as well as BAFTAs for writing BUGSY MALONE, directing MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, and best film for THE COMMITMENTS.

RIP Alan Parker (1944-2020).
