Bates Motel has, up until now, acted as a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film PSYCHO, aiming to show audiences how Norman Bates' (Freddie Highmore) psyche unraveled through his teenage years. The dark, twisted backstory of Norman Bates and how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga), has led us to this moment in the trailer for the final season, where we see a familiar character, Marion Crane, come into play!
I've never sat down and watched an episode of Bates Motel, simply because I don't care for the concept. So to be fair, they could've cast Kate Winslet in the role of Marion Crane, and I wouldn't have cared. Okay, maybe I would have cared. Especially if they re-shot the shower scene. Still, I hope Rihanna gives fans of the show a decent performance as Crane, and that the series ends on a good note!
The final season of Bates Motel premieres Monday, February 20th on A&E.
