Rights to vampire novel Crave acquired by Universal

THR reports that Universal has acquired the rights to a new vampire YA novel called CRAVE (first in a series), written by prolific and New York Times best selling romance author Tracy Wolff, with an intention of creating a new franchise once production starts up again.

A representative of Entangled Publishing – who are releasing the novel – says it's "vampires for a new generation" with a "feminist perspective." Here's the full official synopsis:

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods…or monsters. I still can’t decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me.

Then there’s Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. But there’s something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what’s broken in me.

Which could spell death for us all.

Because Jaxon walled himself off for a reason. And now someone wants to wake a sleeping monster, and I’m wondering if I was brought here intentionally as the bait.

While the film is obviously in the early stages – with no cast, writer, or director attached (and likely won't for some time) – Wolff's novel itself is out now (BUY IT HERE), so you can check it out yourself if you were so inclined. Honestly, while vampire romance isn't my thing really personally (I prefer them in skintight leather fighting werewolves or getting killed by BLADE), I think these kinds of films are ultimately harmless, if that's what you're into. And who knows? Maybe a more mature take on the genre could be a way to give it more broad appeal.

Either way, what do you guys think? Sound off below!
