Ridley Scott’s Alien kinda-prequel Prometheus gets an official synopsis and Ben Foster

We’ve still been trying to piece together just what filmmaker Ridley Scott is doing with his ALIEN-“related” sci-fi project PROMETHEUS, based on the most recent cryptic comments from writer Damon Lindelof and co-star Michael Fassbender.

A summary finally drifted across the data-tubes this week, giving supposed details about the “space jockey” and the human travelers, but we’re told that’s not accurate.

Here’s the official (if brief) line: “Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.”

Not exactly (chest)bursting with information, but that’s the one we’re sticking with until we can scratch up something more specific.

We’ve also confirmed that Ben Foster is now part of the cast that includes Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Michael Fassbender. Foster has experience dealing with deep space problems from the under-appreciated PANDORUM.

We’ll learn all the mysteries of the universe (the one with xenomorphs, anyway) when PROMETHEUS arrives on June 8, 2012. In 3D, of course.
