One of the busiest directors working today doesn’t have a superhero or tween vampire movie under his belt; instead, Ridley Scott has a long list of classic movies spanning over five decades which he continues to add to. He also has a long list of movies he talks about making or hopes he can make; swings and roundabouts I suppose. He’s busy on this next effort EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS that will hit theaters on December 12th 2014 and after that THE MARTIAN, starring Matt Damon is set for release on November 25th 2015. Looking beyond that now, he hopes to get to work on the sequels for BLADE RUNNER and PROMETHEUS.
The director recently spoke with EW about those sequels and mentioned the script for the BLADE RUNNER sequel is complete:
"It's written and it's damn good," of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years – despite the accident (referring to Ford's "Star Wars" injury). So yes, that will happen."
You have to laugh at the little jab about Ford’s poor leg; I’m sure Ford would (not Disney though). Scott also revealed that he could direct the BLADE RUNNER sequel after THE MARTIAN which of course leaves little time for PROMETHEUS 2 which currently set for release on March 4, 2016.
"That’s the problem, I've got a lot of ducks in a row. But they're all written."
I’m all for this guy keeping busy, but between him, Guillermo Del Toro, and Steven Spielberg, we have about ten dream projects on the go right now. On second thought, do you know what that’s called for people such as I? Job security! Bring on the ducks gentlemen. What this could ultimately do though is force Scott and 20th Century Fox to hand over directing duties of the PROMETHEUS sequel to someone else. Also, it’s not even confirmed yet that Harrison Ford would say yes to a BLADE RUNNER sequel; and if you don't have Ford, you don't have a leg to stand on. Goodnight!
Which sequel of Scott's would you want to see?
