Although THE MARTIAN starring Matt Damon will be Ridley Scott's next film, he's still planning on directing sequels to BLADE RUNNER and PROMETHEUS. In an interview with Yahoo! UK, Scott gave an update on the script for PROMETHEUS 2, and says he's looking forward to doing another movie.
Right now, as we speak, it’s being written. I’ve had 15 drafts evolving. I definitely want to do that again because I really enjoyed doing Prometheus.
Those 15 drafts are likely the work of GREEN LANTERN scribe Michael Green, who joined the project earlier this year, and is also developing the script for the new BLADE RUNNER with Ridley Scott. While things could always change, Scott goes on to say Xenomorphs won't be in the next movie.
The beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting [the late H.R. Giger] all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four ['Alien' movies] (he has conveniently forgotten the ‘AvP’ movies), I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.
It might bother some, but I'm fine with Xenomorphs not appearing in PROMETHEUS 2. The focus should be on the Engineers for the the sequel, and I think many people are interested in learning more about the alien race. Do you think Xenomorphs need to appear in PROMETHEUS 2, or do you agree with Ridley Scott's plans for the next movie?
Ridley Scott's EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS starring Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton will be in theaters on December 12, 2014, and THE MARTIAN is set to open on November 25, 2015.
