Jodie Comer in early talks to join Ridley Scott’s Napoleon Bonaparte film

Jodie Comer starred alongside Matt Damon, Adam Driver, and Ben Affleck in Ridley Scott's The Last Duel, and the director was reportedly so impressed by her that he's looking to work with her again on his next project. Deadline has reported that Jodie Comer is Ridley Scott's top choice to play Napoleon Bonaparte's beloved Josephine in Kitbag, a historical epic for Apple Studios.

Deadline's insiders say that Jodie Comer's involvement is still in early talks, but if Ridley Scott really wants her and she's available, I'd say it's a safe bet that Comer will be Josephine. Kitbag is already set to star Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonaparte and production is expected to begin once Ridley Scott completes work on House of Gucci starring Lady Gaga. As for Kitbag, which is taken from the saying, "There is a general's staff hidden in every soldier's kitbag," the film will be a "original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. While the intention of the film is to capture Napoleon’s famous battles, ambition and strategic mind, the love story he had with Josephine is just as important to the origins and way the great military leader was." Ridley Scott will direct Kitbag from a script by David Scarpa, who penned Scott's All the Money in the World.

Production on The Last Duel concluded last year, and the film, set in 14th century France, is said to be an epic tale of betrayal and justice which will be told from three distinct points of view, that of two knights (Matt Damon and Adam Driver), whose bond is tested by treachery, as well as a young woman (Jodie Comer) who is forced to navigate the brutal and oppressive culture of the era in order to survive. The Last Duel is slated for an October 15, 2021 release, but Jodie Comer will next be seen starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in Free Guy on May 21, 2021. Comer is also expected to shoot the fourth season of Killing Eve later this year with Sandra Oh.
