While many movies have dealt with the legend of King Arthur, most recently Guy Ritchie's KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD, few have put their focus entirely on Merlin, the fabled wizard who quite often pops up in Arthurian legend. According to Variety, none other than Ridley Scott (ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD) himself may be the one to bring Merlin's story to life.
Variety reports that Ridley Scott is in negotiations to direct THE MERLIN SAGA for Disney based upon the novels by T.A. Barron. A deal hasn't yet been closed, but Variety's sources state that this will likely be Ridley Scott's next movie. T.A. Barron's Merlin Saga follows the "adventures and training of young Merlin on the mist-shrouded isle of Fincayra, an enchanted land between earth and sky that is being destroyed by blight. With this land's inhabitants to guide him, the boy will learn that Fincayra's fate and his own quest are strangely interwined." This isn't the only Merlin-related film which Disney is developing, as they're also working on a live-action adaptation of THE SWORD IN THE STONE, which Ridley Scott also met with Disney executives about last year. The man clearly wants a little magic in his life, or a sweet Disney payday. Philippa Boyens (THE LORD OF THE RINGS) is on board to pen the script.
