Ridley Scott apprently doesn’t like superhero movies

Superhero films have been around since superheroes. From the serials of the '40s and '50s (with the first one being CAPTAIN MARVEL – the SHAZAM version – in 1940), to the current explosion of big-budget comic-book blockbusters post-X-MEN that we're living in today. Point is, superhero films have been a fixture on the big-screen from the beginning, and even if their popularity waxes-and-wanes, they will never truly go away.

I bring all this up, because in an interview with Digital Spy, Ridley Scott talked about being offered and turning down various superhero films, and the reasons why:

Superhero movies are not my kind of thing – that's why I've never really done one…[I've been asked] several times, but I can't believe in the thin, gossamer tight-rope of the non-reality of the situation of the superhero…cinema mainly is pretty bad…I hope it doesn't affect those of us who still keep making smart films.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love me some Ridley Scott. He gets a lifetime pass for ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER alone, let alone all of his other great films he's made since then (GLADIATOR, MATCHSTICK MEN, etc). And, look, he's entitled to his opinion. I just happen to vehemently disagree with it, as I feel superhero films, while exaggerated, can still give truths of the human condition if done well. Honestly, I wonder what superhero films he was offered?
