The newly retitled THE MUPPETS…AGAIN! has released its first official image (bottom), showing off our favorite talking stuffed animals on the set in London, where they are currently filming their next caper. The mainstays are back, including Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Animal, and all the famiiar characters you’ve known and loved throughout the years. The human cast for the sequel includes Ricky Gervais (who also tweeted a pic of himself on the set with Kermit and Miss Piggy), Tina Fey, and Ty Burrell.
This time out, the story “finds the Muppet repertory company enjoying a triumphant world tour, only to become tangled up with a criminal mastermind named Constantine, who is out to steal an enormous diamond—and who happens to be a dead ringer for Kermit.”
“I always loved those classic jewel-heist capers from the ’60s and ’70s, so I was very keen to do a movie that had elements of that [genre] featuring the Muppets and comedy and songs,” said returning director James Bobin, who wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller (FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL).
I wasn’t as blown away as everyone else for 2011’s THE MUPPETS, but the characters are deeply embedded in my childhood, so there’s no doubt I’ll catch the sequel in theaters. Here’s to hoping it’s a little more fun.
