Just last week we found out that Chris Rock would be hosting the 88th Academy Awards, and with that mystery out of the way our inquisitive minds soon turned to another question of monumental importance; who would host the Golden Globes? Turns out that our new Golden Globes host will be a familiar one as it has been announced that three-time host Ricky Gervais will be returning to host the 73rd Golden Globe Awards on January 10, 2016.
Gervais previously hosted the 67th, 68th, and 69th Golden Globe Awards, after which he vowed that he would never host the Globes again and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took the reins for the next three ceremonies. Despite his vow, when NBC approached the comedian he decided, after some soul searching, that he would be up for the challenge.
NBC's president of alternative and late-night Paul Telegdy:
Tina and Amy are a hard act to follow but Ricky is completely fearless and entirely up for the job. He always did us proud. Welcome back, Ricky.
HFPA president Lorenzo Soria:
Ricky Gervais left us with a lasting impression and we are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honor the best in film and television, his off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.
Executive producer of the 73rd Golden Globe Awards Barry Adelman:
What will he say? What will he do? We can’t wait to find out, and we are so happy that he’s back!
Gervais' time as host sparked a little controversy as his "edgy" jokes poked fun at many of the nominees and led some to believe that he was being "mean". Boo hoo. As Ricky Gervais has been invited back, it seems like the Golden Globes are ready for a little more controversy once again. I know Gervais' style isn't to everyone's taste but I've always been a fan so it's good to know that I actually have a reason to tune in.
Are you glad to see Ricky Gervais back, or would you rather see someone new selected?
