Ricky Gervais’ After Life to get a second season on Netflix

Netflix has announced that Ricky Gervais' dark comedy series AFTER LIFE will be returning to their platform in 2020, for a six-episode Season 2 offering.

“I have never had a reaction like this before. It’s been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really, “ Gervais commented.

Here is the official logline for AFTER LIFE:

Tony (Ricky Gervais) had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.

“After Life has moved audiences from laughter to tears around the world and we are thrilled to announce that Ricky Gervais will be back with a second season on Netflix. We are so proud to play host to Ricky’s brilliant stand up comedy, specials, original films and series and join in the joy of the fans with his latest hit,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, in a statement.

In other Gervais-related news, the EXTRAS and MUPPETS MOST WANTED alum is currently lending his voice to The Cat for Kris Pearn and Cory Evans' THE WILLOUGHBYS. The upcoming animated feature based on the book written by author Lois Lowry is set to tell the tale of when the four Willoughby children are abandoned by their selfish parents, and must learn how to adapt their Old-Fashioned values to the contemporary world in order to create something new: The Modern Family. Also set to join the film's voice cast are Maya Rudolph, Terry Crews, Jane Krakowski and Martin Short, among others.
