One by one, the living members of the GHOSTBUSTERS original cast have been signing on to take part in Paul Feig's reboot of the franchise for Sony Pictures. After GHOSTBUSTERS 3 eventually fell through and the decision was made to shake the dust off the property and put it back into action, there was a lot of wonder if we'd see the likes of Dan Aykroyd or Bill Murray show their faces as a part of the new direction of GHOSTBUSTERS. The answers to that are yes and yes, and then slowly but surely, we got Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver.
However, the one original cast member who we hadn't heard about one way or the other was Rick Moranis. Having played accountant Louis Tully in both early GHOSTBUSTERS film, there was a great degree of interest in Moranis perhaps popping up in a cameo, as the others seemed to be doing, because… well, it's Rick Moranis. Who wouldn't love to see him on the big screen, if even just for a minute, in a GHOSTBUSTERS project?
Apparently Rick Moranis. That's who.
Moranis has finally commented on the chances of showing up in Feig's film, explaining to The Hollywood Reporter that he was offered the chance to have a walk-on role in the movie.
I wish them well. I hope it's terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?
It's really hard to fault that sort of logic.
He holds no ill will against another GHOSTBUSTERS movie being made, but he's moved on and would rather not go back to the well for himself again. I get it, and I respect it. It's not for him, and that's really the end of it. It is what it is.
I definitely would recommend reading the rest of Moranis' conversation, if you rank among those who have been wondering where he's been, what he's been up to, when we might see him again. It's quite the interesting piece about someone who simply shifted around the priorities in their life and still wound up incredibly satisfied.
Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS hits theaters on July 15, 2016.
