Rick and Negan face off in The Walking Dead season 7 clip

AMC's The Walking Dead is putting its fans through some cruel and unusual punishment this year, ending season six with one of the biggest cliffhanger moments since "Who shot J.R.?" The villainous Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was introduced and had eleven series regulars lined up in front of him, and as the episode came to a close he was beating the holy hell out of one of them with his barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat Lucille. But who did Negan kill? We have to wait until the season seven premiere on October 23rd to find out. 

The cruelty continues with a newly released clip that can be seen below, one which picks up immediately after the murder has been committed. With Lucille covered in blood, Negan goes over to have a chat with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). For three minutes these guys talk, with no indication of who Negan killed. There are no specific references to the deceased, no noises from other characters in the line-up. Someone is dead and Rick is angry about it, but we're still going to have to tune in on the 23rd to see who it was.

We do see plenty of their blood in this clip, though. And the gory spot on the ground where their death occurred. And hey, someone had that dirty blanket wrapped around them in the finale, what's it doing laying over there?

The first half of The Walking Dead season 7 has the following synopsis:

Up until this point, our characters have lived through conflicts… Disease, hunger, scores of the undead, tragedy, betrayal, and unthinkable loss. Through this, they've become formidable. Powerful. Unstoppable.

To start Season Seven, that power is taken away. They had found safety and stability. They had created a home. They thought the world was theirs. They thought they knew the world. They were wrong.

The first half of Season Seven sees our group fractured, broken, bereaved, and picking up the pieces while living under the thumb of oppression. Negan will have successfully brought the survivors under his control, brutally convincing them to live under his rules with a deadly and horrific example of what happens if they don’t.

Other characters are unaware of what’s happened, but have become separated from the group either by incident or choice — they will learn that they can’t escape this new turn of their world, either. This half season is about these characters starting over.

The overall theme of the season is beginning again. The world isn’t what they thought it was. It’s bigger and it’s even more dangerous.
