Considering all the tragedy people experience in their lives – like losing loved ones and stepping on a Lego with bare feet – I’m gonna go ahead and say that, for fans of RICK AND MORTY, the two-year wait for season four has been the most trying time they will ever go through in their lives. But the days of hardship are almost over, and Adult Swim has given you a sampler plate of the glorious, interdimensional adventures soon to come with the first trailer for the fourth season of the acclaimed animated series from Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. Fans will see returning characters, people turning into things they don’t want to be turned into, Rick being a bit of a diva, and, more importantly, the official release date.

Unfortunately, along with the release date, Adult Swim announced that after two years the fourth season will initially come with only five episodes, the voiceover cheekily admitting, “Half the season you deserve. All the season we could handle.” This conflicts with earlier reports that this season would be ten episodes like seasons of the past, so perhaps these first five will debut this year, and then the second half will pick up sometime next year, but that has yet to be addressed. They would surely have to for the sake of season counts, as Adult Swim signed the creators for an additional 70 new episodes around the time of the third season.
Still, five new episodes are better than nothing, and of course, they look wild and hilarious. Fans will see the return of Mr. Poopbutthole, the Meeseeks, and all the general ridiculousness that comes with traveling across dimensions. Starting off as a bit of a cult hit the show has become more and more popular over the years, and last year won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program.
RICK AND MORTY returns on November 10.
