The Mandalorian, the first live-action STAR WARS series to stream on Disney+, is half-way through its first season and production is already underway on the second. The first season has seen episodes directed by Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow thus far, but we haven't heard anything official on which directors will be taking the helm for the second season.
There are certainly plenty of directors who would be eager to enter the world of The Mandalorian, and that includes STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI writer/director Rian Johnson. The director was asked whether or not he'd be up for helming an episode of The Mandalorian while speaking on CinemaBlend's ReelBlend podcast.
Hell yeah! Man, if I had the time, I would get in there in a heartbeat. I had a set visit for Season 1 and it looked amazing. It looked like so much fun!
Although Rian Johnson is known for his feature-film work, including the recently released KNIVES OUT, he's also tackled episodes of Terriers and Breaking Bad. Of course, as Johnson mentioned, he's rather busy at the moment, likely working on the new STAR WARS trilogy which will break away from the Skywalker Saga. I know Rian Johnson gets a lot of shit for THE LAST JEDI, but I'd absolutely be down if he wanted to put his stamp on the small-screen side of STAR WARS. What about you?
