With STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER now behind us, the Skywalker Saga is complete, but it's safe to say that the J.J. Abrams film didn't exactly please everyone, and one of the more vocal arguments surrounding the film is whether or not it retconned several choices which Rian Johnson made in the previous film, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI. This argument will likely rage on until most of us have become one with the Force, but it doesn't sound like Rian Johnson is losing any sleep over it.

While on the red-carpet for the Academy Awards, MTV caught up with Rian Johnson and asked him what he thought of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER.

I had a blast, man. Made me so proud and seeing the heart and soul that J.J. [Abrams] put into it. And seeing my friends who were in the movie just like, bring the whole thing to a conclusion. Yeah, for me as a Star Wars fan, it was a really special experience.

It certainly seems as though Rian Johnson enjoyed himself, but it would be interesting to hear his more in-depth thoughts regarding the film, but as he's still in the employ of Lucasfilm while he develops a new STAR WARS trilogy, I can't imagine that he'd really voice his unfiltered opinions about the film at this time. Prior to the release of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, Johnson spoke about the fine line between telling the story you want and making fans happy. "I think approaching any creative process with that second thing you said [making fandoms happy] would be a mistake that would lead to probably the exact opposite result," Johnson said. "Even my experience as a fan, you know, if I’m coming into something, even if it’s something that I think I want, if I see exactly what I think I want on the screen, it’s like ‘oh, okay,’ it might make me smile and make me feel neutral about the thing and I won’t really think about it afterwards, but that’s not really going to satisfy me."

While it may be a while before we hear anything more concrete about Rian Johnson's next STAR WARS adventure, the writer/director is hard at work on a sequel to KNIVES OUT which will see Detective Beniot Blanc (Daniel Craig) returning to solve an all-new mystery.
