It is not uncommon for large blockbusters to have equally large runtimes, with movies like BATMAN V. SUPERMAN, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and this year’s IT to push to around two and a half hours. With a month left to go before its release, we now know that STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI will enter that realm, and you will get to spend the most time ever in a galaxy far, far away.
IGN France was recently at a press event for JEDI, and there director Rian Johnson confirmed that the movie runs 150 minutes (with credits), making it the longest STAR WARS movie ever. There were rumors that this could be the runtime some time ago, with sites like Fandango having it as the listed length. Still, many saw it as a general placeholder runtime, but now it appears they were correct.
#LesDerniersJedi dure 2h30 (generique inclus) confirme @rianjohnson, ce qui en fait le film Star Wars le plus long de la franchise.

By and large, the previous STAR WARS movies tend to run around 120-130 minutes, with ATTACK OF THE CLONE holding the record at 142 minutes. LAST JEDI has that beat, and know we know the stories of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Luke (Mark Hamill) and Leia (Carrie Fisher) will get some serious time to develop. Not to mention that's a lot of time for lightsaber action and space battles and training montages.
FORCE AWAKENS was the seventh episode of the STAR WARS saga, taking place decades after RETURN OF THE JEDI, but introduced so many new characters as a way to kickstart a whole new story. Where AWAKENS was all about setting everything up, JEDI will need to add to the story and develop it in a way that makes sense and sets the stage for the conclusion of the trilogy in 2019. 150 minutes is a lot of time to cover all the bases, so be sure to come equipped with a catheter bag of some sort, and by god don’t go out for burritos beforehand.
STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI hits theaters December 15.
