Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, writer/director Johannes Roberts‘ reboot of the Resident Evil film franchise, reached theatres on November 24th, and over the last month has earned just under $32 million at the global box office. While the film is still playing on the big screen, Screen Gems has decided to give us an early Christmas gift by putting Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City out on VOD – you can rent it through Amazon Prime right now!
I had been wanting to see this movie (even though our own Chris Bumbray only gave it a 5/10 review, which you can read at THIS LINK), but haven’t been to a theatre since before the pandemic hit, so I’m glad to see it’s now on VOD. I will be watching it very soon.
Directly based on the first two Resident Evil video games, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City has the following synopsis:
Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland… with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever… changed… and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.
The film stars Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Avan Jogia as Leon Kennedy, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Neal McDonough as William Birkin, Donal Logue as Chief Brian Irons, Chad Rook as Richard Aiken, Lily Gao as Ada Wong, Marina Mazepa as Lisa Trevor, and Nathan Dale as Brad Vickers.
