If we have learned anything from all of our years as horror fans it's that, when a flick claims to be "The Final Chapter", we can all but assume that particular flick is, for lack of a better term, "full of complete and utter horsesh*t."
Case in point, it's not going to be surprising (at all) when the eventual 7th installment in the RESIDENT EVIL film series is announced in, oh, a week or so, I'd say. Especially considering this crazy sh*t.
RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER scored a $94+ million opening weekend – in China.
Many sites have called this number historic. And it damn well is. You see, the previous Hollywood debuts that the new RESIDENT EVIL flick just blew away were: FURIOUS 7 with $68 million and WARCRAFT (??) at $46 million. Yeah, you read that right, the new RESIDENT EVIL topped FURIOUS 7's haul by almost $30 million.
To compare with the film's domestic take, RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER scored $30.4 million on Friday cross China, while here in the States, the film has yet to pass $30 million TOTAL!
Crazy. I know.
Now, thanks to the flick rocking HUGE numbers over in China, RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER is now all but guaranteed to become the most successful installment in the franchise. To date.
So don't be surprised when, next week, we announce that Paul W. S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich are currently gearing up to bring us RESIDENT EVIL: I SWEAR, FOR REAL, NO REALLY, FOR REAL THIS TIME, THIS IS THE LAST ONE, I PROMISE, REALLY. Rated R.
