Resident Evil: The Final Chapter enters production; reveals new cast

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Screen Gems has announced that the sixth and apparently final film (pft, yea right) in the RESIDENT EVIL franchise kicked off principal photography in South Africa today. RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER will see Milla Jovovich reprising her role as Alice in a grand finale which will either see the remnants of humanity prevail…or the Umbrella corporation successfully completing its evil plan. We already know that Ali Larter has returned as Claire Redfield but several other names, both new and old, will be joining her for one last battle with the undead.

Iain Glen (Game of Thrones) will return as Dr. Alexander Isaacs, an Umbrella scientist last seen in RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION, and Shawn Roberts' (EDGE OF DARKNESS) Albert Wesker will also return for the finale. Some of the new faces include Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) as Abigail, Eoin Macken (The Night Shift) as Doc, William Levy (Dancing with the Stars) as Christian, Fraser James (Law & Order: UK) as Michael, and Japanese model and TV personality, Rola, as Cobalt.

What will this mix of attractive people be getting up to in RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER? Lets find out.

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.

I recall watching the first RESIDENT EVIL all those years ago and thinking it was fairly decent but, despite being certain that I've seen them, the proceeding four sequels all run together in some sort of nebulous void. I'm sure the franchise has its fans, after all, close to a billion dollars at the box-office doesn't come from nowhere, but I'm also sure that many are glad this whole thing will finally conclude.

RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER will hit theaters on January 27, 2017.
