Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City release shifts to November

It seems as though our return to Raccoon City will have to wait as Sony Pictures announced today that the upcoming Resident Evil reboot has been delayed. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was slated for a September 3rd release, but the film has now been pushed to November 24th, which will have it facing off against Disney's Encanto and Ridley Scott's House of Gucci.

The Resident Evil reboot will bring things back to basics as it will take place in 1998 and serve as an origin story to the original games. "With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences," said writer/director Johannes Roberts when the project was announced. The film stars Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and The Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Tom Hooper (Black Sails) as Albert Wesker, Donal Logue (Gotham) as Chief Brian Irons, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin. It's the hope that Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will launch a new universe based around the storylines and characters from the classic game franchise.
