As we know, Netflix cancelled their Resident Evil series after just one season. Given the cost of the series along with the lackluster reviews from critics and audiences, its cancellation wasn’t a big surprise, but the series definitely had its fans. Lance Reddick, who played Dr. Albert Wesker on Resident Evil, took to Twitter to respond to its cancellation and to give thanks to the showrunners, his fellow cast members, the executives who championed the series, and its fans.
“As all of you are well aware by now, our show Resident Evil on Netflix has been cancelled,” Lance Reddick said. “The haters and the trolls notwithstanding, I want to give a special thank you to all the fans who watched the show, got what we were doing and really loved it, because there are a hell of a lot of you.” Reddick gave a shoutout to Mary Leah Sutton and Andrew Dabb, the “fearless leaders” of Resident Evil, adding that the cast and crew “worked our asses off. We had a great time, and we made a hell of a show. Thank you. Onward and upward.“
Taking place over two timelines — 2022 and 2036 — the Resident Evil series revolved around Billie and Jade, the children of Dr. Albert Wesker, creator of the T-virus. “Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and mind-shattering creatures,” reads the official synopsis. “In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the sinister Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.” The series starred Lance Reddick, Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery.
