The Netflix streaming service has just unveiled the first images from their upcoming thriller Reptile, which stars Benicio Del Toro and Justin Timberlake. The film is scheduled to start streaming on October 6th, and you can take a look at the characters played by Del Toro and Timberlake (and some of their co-stars) in the images at the bottom of this article.
In addition to starring in the film, Del Toro also worked on the screenplay with director Grant Singer and Benjamin Brewer, and also served as an executive producer. The script Del Toro, Singer, and Brewer crafted together has the following synopsis: Following the brutal murder of a young real estate agent, a hardened detective attempts to uncover the truth in a case where nothing is as it seems, and by doing so dismantles the illusions in his own life.
Del Toro and Timberlake are joined in the cast by Eric Bogosian, Alicia Silverstone, Domenick Lombardozzi, Frances Fisher, Ato Essandoh, Michael Carmen Pitt, Karl Glusman, and Matilda Lutz.
Reptile was produced by Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, and Thad Luckinbill. Del Toro’s fellow executive producers are Rick Yorn and Rachel Smith.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Singer had this to say about his film: “I think the movie will be exciting to people who like to watch something where you don’t know where it’s leading you, where a film is going to have twists and turns and deceive you. And people who like things that are intense and visceral and suspenseful, I think they’ll find something exciting in this.” To see more quotes from Singer, click over to the EW article.
Reptile marks Singer’s feature directorial debut. He has previously directed music videos for the likes of Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Sam Smith, and he names David Fincher, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson as some of his biggest inspirations.
Before Reptile reaches Netflix, it will be having its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8th.
