Reptile: Benicio Del Toro and Alicia Silverstone investigate a brutal murder case in new trailer

Netflix is a haven for crime thriller fans with such popular hits as Making a Murderer, the David Fincher series Mindhunter, and the recent Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. The streaming service has just released the trailer for a new thriller that sees the reunion of Excess Baggage stars Benicio Del Toro and Alicia Silverstone, Reptile. The film also stars Justin Timberlake, Eric Bogosian, Domenick Lombardozzi, Frances Fisher, Ato Essandoh, Michael Carmen Pitt, Karl Glusman, and Matilda Lutz.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads,
“Following the brutal murder of a young real estate agent, a hardened detective attempts to uncover the truth in a case where nothing is as it seems, and by doing so dismantles the illusions in his own life.” Del Toro boasts about the film’s twists and turns, “I liked the unpredictability. There were a couple of what I like to call ‘Oh, shit’ moments that also compelled me to get involved.” Justin Timberlake, starring as the husband of the victim, expressed his similar feelings, “I wanted to get to the end as quickly as possible — just like a good book or suspenseful novel. I liked the idea of playing a character that has to constantly react to the unpredictability of what’s thrown in his direction.”

The film is directed by Grant Singer, whose credits include music videos for artists such as Sam Smith and The Weeknd. The producers of the movie include Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, and Thad Luckinbill. Benicio Del Toro, Rick Yorn, and Rachel Smith are on board as executive producers.

The screenplay was written by Grant Singer & Benjamin Brewer, and Benicio Del Toro. This will mark the first time Del Toro wrote on a screenplay and the actor felt enthused about his new venture, “The collaboration was a lot of fun. Once we knew where we needed the story to land, then the question becomes, ‘How do we get there? How do we make it interesting?’ We did research and tried to make it as real as possible. We talked about movies and storytelling with certain films as references. One that comes to mind is In Cold Blood.”
