The '90s wouldn’t have been the same without Renny Harlin; the director brought us such greats as DIE HARD 2, CLIFFHANGER, and THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT. He also brought us one of the biggest box office flops of all time with CUTTHROAST ISLAND and this year's LEGEND OF HERCULES; swings and roundabouts I suppose. He is now in talks to direct SKIPTRACE, an action adventure movie starring Jackie Chan and Seann William Scott. Harlin replaces Sam Fell (PARANORMAN) who would have made this his live action debut.
Based off of an idea by Jackie Chan:
The action comedy centers on a good cop (Chan) whose niece (Fan Bingbing) gets into trouble with a crime syndicate run by a man the detective has been chasing for a decade. The cop is forced to track down the one person who can help save the niece — a fast-talking American gambler (Scott) — and bring him to Hong Kong.
This sounds like it could be a lot of fun; Jackie Chan has been in some memorable action comedies like RUSH HOUR and SHANGHAI NOON and Seann William Scott delivered in THE RUNDOWN if that's substantial evidence of this project possibly working. The first Chan movie I ever saw was POLICE STORY, one of the best action movies ever. I've never doubted the man's ability to entertain me and I'm not going to start now.
SKIPTRACE is to begin production in August 2014.
If there’s one way to make a scene in CLIFFHANGER better, it's to have Ace Ventura take over:
