Remake of Hitchcock’s The Birds coming from BBC

There has been talk for years now that we would be seeing a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s killer classic THE BIRDS hitting screens. Usually, the news came with names such as director Martin Campbell (CASINO ROYALE) and Naomi Watts attached, but not this time.

Turns out that the BBC is looking to remake THE BIRDS into a “contemporary TV drama.”

The BBC take on the classic flick – produced by HARRY POTTER film-producer David Heyman’s TV company Heyday Television – will remain strive to remain true to Daphne du Maurier’s original 1952 novella, but will feature a few noticeable differences such as moving the setting from Hitchcock’s California (Bodega Bay) to the rural Cornwell.

BBC’S THE BIRDS synopsis:

A farmhand and his community are being terrorized by flocks of birds and seagulls shortly after the end of the Second World War.

The new take on the story will be written by Conor McPherson, who previously adapted Daphne du Maurier’s novella into a stage play back in 2009.
